I am awesome and so can you!

Well folks, I’m sorry.  I haven’t been posting lately…at all.  I blame the winter blues.  Good news though!  You can all get excited again, because I’m back on and I’ve got some wicked awesome shots to share.

Last week I went out with a few friends all of which are photographers in their own right.  Veronica, for some odd reason in which no one can explain, decided not to bring her camera!  Veronica is the hippie :)  But we still love her any way.   Then there was Heather, the red head.  She’s a photographer with a knack for photographing flowers, she does flowers like nobody’s business.  Then we had a friend from Montreal fly in.  William.  I met him while I was in Montreal, he’s in town on vacation.  Who comes to Winnipeg for a vacation?  At any rate, we headed over to Cooks Creek and then to Birdshill Park for some adventure and photographic fun!

In true Denley form I say less talk more pictures…so here you go!

Tennis not Superbowl

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, especially Superbowl Sunday.  I hear one of the teams won or something :P  Well if you don’t know, I am NOT a huge “football” fan but I AM a huge Tennis fan.  Yesterday was not only Superbowl Sunday but it was one of Tennis’s Grand Slams.  The Australian Open in  Melbourne.  The finals were held between world number 1 Rafael Nadal and world number 2 and defending champion Roger Federer.  If you don’t know who Roger Federer is well…I guess I’ll just have to inform you.

Roger Federer is on his way to becoming Tennis’s greatest player of all time.  Currently he has won 13 Grand Slams, the only other person to have a higher number than Federer is Pete Sampras.  This Australian Open was of HUGE significance because if Roger were to win, he’d be tied with the greatest player of all time!  He did not win.  Rafael Nadal maintained his number 1 status even after playing the longest match in the Australian Open one night before!

Federer and Nadal showcased an amazing and epic game that lasted a good 3 and a half hours I believe.  Ultimately Nadal won in a convincing last set.  Personally I was rooting for Nadal and I’m glad he won.  Nadal, also considered a great player has won 6 Grand Slams, this last year’s Olympic Gold Medal and has won 4 consecutive Grand Slams at the French Open these last 4 years, matched only by Bjorn Borg about 30 years ago-ish!  Yes, I know, I’m a Tennis nerd…get over it :)  At any rate, probably the most interesting thing about this match was how Roger Federer handled himself after he lost.  It truly was a sad moment for him, and it was heart wrenching to watch.

If you want a real tangible competitive comparison between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal simply compare the two to the Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi rivalry.  Here is Federer after losing!

I hope everyone had a super fantastic Superbowl Sunday and for any of you Tennis fans out there holla and leave a comment! :)

Well its back to work for me, I’ve got a busy week ahead filled with meetings, accountants, and all that fun stuff :)

The Day After

haha, I’m laughing as I write this.  I just finished watching this hilarious video of this woman who made a video from actual wedding discussion boards.  Her focus was “after the wedding”.  Hope you enjoy!  Thanks Anne!

Star Wars, The Sean and the shameless plug

Alphabet Soup

Natasha Boone

So yesterday I took the day off and went over to my good friend Sean’s place where we had decided that we would watch ALL 6 of the Star Wars movies…in order.  Sean, who is on holidays this week, and is also a part of the super awesome childrens entertainment band called Alphabet Soup had nothing planned for his Tuesday so we decided this would be the best use of our time.  Natasha, another good friend of mine, who happens to be married to Sean and who also happens to be an amazing artist (shameless plug), was kind enough to let us partially destroy the basement with an assortment of junk food and the occasional water on the carpet spillage.

Natasha also makes a mean Shepard’s pie and a seriously delicious salad, mmm.  So, on to the movies!  We started at 12pm and ended at 12am.  Unfortunately, SEAN! wasn’t up to the task of completing all 6 movies, but we did manage to get through 5 of them!  The first movie “Phantom Menace” was good until Jar Jar Binks started talking (sigh, he ruins that movie).  The second was way better, and the third movie is AMAZING, and my personal favourite!  Revenge of the Sith has all these super crazy awesome fight scenes and when Natalie Portman says “Anakin, you’re breaking my heart” that gets me everytime!  Then onto the classics, with Harrison Ford and his one liners, Darth Vader all bad ass, and you can’t forget the DEATH STAR!  We managed to end the night only having gained a few extra pounds, and getting up the stairs was a bit of a challenge, but we survived!

Sean and I will finish the sixth movie sometime this week…hopefully.  Overall, this has been one of the best Tuesdays I have ever had.  Anyone up for a Lord of the Rings marathon?

Michelle

Boy howdy!  She is growing up quick.  I remember when my niece was just born, it feels like yesterday, to be cliche.  I was an uncle for the first time, it was so exciting!  I can recall driving to the hospital, the smell was so distinct and…well, clean.  My parents and my siblings walked into the room where my sister in-law was holding Sophia Michelle Thiessen.  I was excited/nervous to see and hold Michelle for the first time.  I remember Angie, my sister in-law, giving her to me, I, trying to be as delicate as humanly possible, trying not to move at all out of fear of dropping her!  And then it happened. I looked down, holding her in my left arm as I use my right arm to uncover this bundle of joy from underneath the warm blanket.  And there she was.  I always heard people say how beautiful babies were when they are just born, and there I was, in shock, speechless.  It took a moment but finally the word came to me…eww.  I was 16 at the time.

Turns out babies are quite wrinkley when they are first born.  That! I wasn’t expecting.  She did manage to make me laugh on this wonderful night though.  It turns out that everytime a camera flash went off she would jerk her whole body as if to say, what unnatural thing just happened?  All this was before I knew how to take pictures and before my photographic journey began.  Now?  Well, now Michelle and her two twin younger brothers are a fantastic addition to the family and I might add they are not wrinkley at all!

I love taking pictures of my niece and nephews, especially with my trusty film Nikon FM2.  The colours, the feel, and the results you can get out of this camera…spectacular.  Here is Michelle, a few years back, no wrinkles and very, VERY cute.

Just Kickin it

Just some random deliciousness. Enjoy!

I just thought I’d throw up a favourite of mine :)

Two day shoot!

Wow, what a week.  I sure have been busy this week preparing for all sorts of shooting.  This last Saturday and Sunday, I had a wicked time with an old friend I used to work with David Kujawa, from Kujawa Studios.  Pretty much the whole time him and I were laughing, high fiving, and just plain having fun!  David called me up about a month ago with an idea he had in mind.  David wanted to work on his portfolio and just play around with his camera. He called me to help out with lighting, ideas, and I think just to make him laugh.  I’m not sure why, but whenever David and I get together we end up on the floor laughing, and the last two days were no exception, especially when I had him choking on his chicken caeser pita!

The concept was “action”.  Here are some shots of the behind the scenes shots.  I can’t wait to see the video you are putting together David, its gonna rock! :-P

Wednesday night

Wednesday night was a huge success!  I think about 20 or so photographer came by and we all chatted for quite sometime!  I played a couple rounds of Rock Band and didn’t do too badly.  Thanks to Trevor for hosting the event.  I’d love to do it again!  Check out Trevor Brucki’s blog for a video of the whole thing!

Monthly Meeting

I just finished making a sweet, sweet Mud Cake.  I’ll be heading on over to Trevor Brucki’s place for a little get together with him and some other awesome wedding photographers in the city later on tonight. They will be testing out my Mud Cake, and I’m sure it’ll be great!   I’ll have an update from the shin dig later this week.
