Mondays

Firstly, thank you to everyone who entered the Photo Contest, winners will be announced on February 14th!  All the entries were fantastic and now the hard part of choosing will commence.  Just as a side note I do accept bribes ;).  Secondly, it’s Monday…today I woke up and thought what a relaxed day I’d have but no, as soon as I go to my computer I see that there are a million things to do and I’m not even close to finishing anything.  Sigh.  “Looks like someone has a case of the Mondays” :P  Well, I’m going to buckle up and see what I can accomplish today.  Luckily, I have a network of friends where we all email each other our goals for the day and the week to keep us motivated!  It really works too!  So that is going to be step one!

Battlestar Galactica and Lost

battlestar-glacticalost1280x9605tv

Hey folks!  It’s Friday night which means it is Battlestar Galactic and Lost night.  I’m just about to head on over to my friends house to watch these two amazing shows!  If you haven’t seen Battlestar, get on it, this is the last season :(.  Admiral Adama is in for a real ride tonight, I can’t wait to see if he gets executed or if Gayda gets the axe!  And as for lost!  Well come on…that show rocks.  I’ve just finished downloading it from the interweb and now I’m off to watch them BOTH!  Don’t spoil it for me :)

I am starting to notice I am becoming more and more of a nerd as I get older…I hope this trend stops soon :P  Who else watches these two amazing shows out there?

Tennis not Superbowl

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, especially Superbowl Sunday.  I hear one of the teams won or something :P  Well if you don’t know, I am NOT a huge “football” fan but I AM a huge Tennis fan.  Yesterday was not only Superbowl Sunday but it was one of Tennis’s Grand Slams.  The Australian Open in  Melbourne.  The finals were held between world number 1 Rafael Nadal and world number 2 and defending champion Roger Federer.  If you don’t know who Roger Federer is well…I guess I’ll just have to inform you.

Roger Federer is on his way to becoming Tennis’s greatest player of all time.  Currently he has won 13 Grand Slams, the only other person to have a higher number than Federer is Pete Sampras.  This Australian Open was of HUGE significance because if Roger were to win, he’d be tied with the greatest player of all time!  He did not win.  Rafael Nadal maintained his number 1 status even after playing the longest match in the Australian Open one night before!

Federer and Nadal showcased an amazing and epic game that lasted a good 3 and a half hours I believe.  Ultimately Nadal won in a convincing last set.  Personally I was rooting for Nadal and I’m glad he won.  Nadal, also considered a great player has won 6 Grand Slams, this last year’s Olympic Gold Medal and has won 4 consecutive Grand Slams at the French Open these last 4 years, matched only by Bjorn Borg about 30 years ago-ish!  Yes, I know, I’m a Tennis nerd…get over it :)  At any rate, probably the most interesting thing about this match was how Roger Federer handled himself after he lost.  It truly was a sad moment for him, and it was heart wrenching to watch.

If you want a real tangible competitive comparison between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal simply compare the two to the Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi rivalry.  Here is Federer after losing!

I hope everyone had a super fantastic Superbowl Sunday and for any of you Tennis fans out there holla and leave a comment! :)

Well its back to work for me, I’ve got a busy week ahead filled with meetings, accountants, and all that fun stuff :)

Returning from slackville

I know I know.  No blog post in a week?  What’s going on Denley?  I’d like to say i’ve been busy…so I will!  I have been going to meetings, planning for the wedding season and getting back into “work mode”.  I will be making regular postings again, and maybe even more so than ever before!

My new years kinda sorta resolutions are kinda sorta working, I’m eating less mayo (sniffle) but I’m not excersizing as much as I should be.  You can’t win ‘em all I guess.  Anywho, I’ve been thinking about wedding receptions and some really cool things that I’ve seen.  One wedding reception stuck out to me where the brother of the bride made this really funny video about the newly wed couple, but it was no ordinary video…it was the most creative thing I’ve seen in a while so I thought I would share this with you all so you can perhaps get some ideas from it!  I hope you enjoy.

P.s.  What do you think of this kind of video?  Yays or nays?

2009! And it’s my first official “MEGA” post.

Its 2009 and I didn’t make any “official” new years resolutions.  But I do have a lot of plans, goals and other deliciousness in store.  First off I want to thank everyone for an amazing year.  There are many, MANY people to thank on a personal and professional level.  So here goes!

First and foremost, I’d like to thank my family for their continued source of support and encouragement in my life.  I’d like to thank Sean and Natasha for being amazing people and role models in my life, you guys rock!  Thank you to Gabrielle Touchette, who not only is a close friend but also an amazing photographer who I spend way too much time talking about photography with :P (just kidding, you know I love it!), and who actually happens to be a former bride of mine!  I’d like to thank to Lauralee B. who is like my second mom, you have the best advice!  Thank you to Cory Aronec for teaching me pretty much everything I know!  Thanks to Amanda O. for your awesome blog and someone to chat to every night I teach (when I think about you…).  Many thanks to Patty Boge from Off The Page Photography for your amazing advice.  Thank you to Jake and Jess from Kamp Photography for just being you and super cool at it, I appreciate all the advice you have given! ( I can say Rocktographers properly now, I have been practicing!).  Thanks to all my friends for letting me be myself and STILL being my friends!  You guys are too much fun, and really weird :P  Oh boy I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone!

Okay, so if I didn’t thank you, email me and I’ll make sure to add you in another post:)  So, my new years unofficial resolutions are as follows:

  1. -Be a kinder, more caring person
  2. -Excercise at least twice a week
  3. -Have a salad at least twice a week
  4. -Hug people more
  5. -Use more exclamation points in my post!!!
  6. -Learn French

I realize this could be put into 3 separate posts but how would that make it a mega post then?  See, I’m a thinker!

Montreal!  Montreal was amazing, and if you haven’t noticed by now, I don’t do segways, I just go!  See, that was a segway in a…nevermind.  At any rate, Montreal was very beautiful and the first thing I noticed was they had HILLS!  I know, I know, it doesn’t seem like a big deal but I haven’t seen hills like that in years.  I had to walk up a hill and down a hill all the time.  It makes Winnipeg seem so much easier to walk around, just go straight!  And the weather, boy howdy!  The weather was beautiful.  I remember one day the weather was 0 degrees!  I believe that was boxing day :)  I know I could ramble on for paragraphs but how about I just show you some photos already!

This year is already starting off in high gear.  Stay tuned next week for a special annoucement from me and my super cool friend Gabrielle Touchette.  And if that’s not enough, I was just published in PrairieView School of Photography’s New 2009 Brochure! Make sure the check out the last page, thats where my photo is!

Happy New year!

Happy New Year everyone.  Well I’m back.  Montreal was fantastic but its back to work now. I’ve got a lot of catch up to do so this post won’t have any pics from my trip but I’ll be sure to have some up by the weeks end.  I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season and may 2009 bring a un-prorogued parlaiment? hehe, I spent a day in Ottawa too.  Well, its a quicky but I’ll have more for you later!

The Flight to Montreal

Yesterday was was launch day!  Veronica (forever known as Ronnie) and I headed to the airport and right before we picked up Ronnie to head to the airport she called to let me know that the flight had been delayed.

We were supposed to depart at 5:05 pm but only took off at around 7:30 pm.  That wasn’t too bad.  BUT, while we were waiting at gate “P” as instructed via our boarding tickets Ronnie realized that for whatever reason our actual gate letter had been changed to “S” but NO ONE told us!  Sheesh.   So then finally we are waiting at the right gate and Ronnie with her sly words managed to get both of us seats beside each other.  Thank was nice of the attendant and we courteously thanked him for it!

So we fly.  All is good, we watch “ghost town” or something like that.  It was with Ricky Gervais, you know the one.  Any who, we land and all is well.  We taxi the runway onto a waiting area because all the terminals are full of other planes and we have to wait our turn.  So we wait.  And wait.  And wait. For an hour, sitting in the hot, cramped small airplane.

We finally get off!  We head towards the luggage where we wait for ohhhh, about another hour as our luggage doesn’t come.  Then I noticed that on another luggage line and isn’t marked with our flight number that some luggage is coming through.  Sure enough, our luggage had been going around the luggage belt on a totally different line and the one we were looking on was only for a Vancouver flight (but it was marked for Winnipeg and Vancouver).  As we grab our stuff and head for a taxi the annoucement comes on that our luggage (Winnipeg flight) is on the other belt after we already found it.  Thanks guy, appreciate the help.

At this point Ronnie and I are in a pissy mood because we were soo excited to get to Montreal but with all the rollercoaster emotions of having to wait I left us a bit exhausted.  We get to our hostel, which by the way is fantastic and head to bed.  Snoring on an epic level occurs from what I think is a mountain lion in my dorm room, head phones on and iTouch full blast I head to bed.

All in all the sleep was really good.  We just had an afternoon of exploration and Montreal is SOOOO amazing.  I am in love with this city.  I can’t show you pictures until I get back but I promise you this city is amazing.  Its amazingness makes up for what is a typical flight with good ol’ Air Canada.

But, I don’t want this to be a downer, Montreal is so beautiful.  We had breakfast at this amazing Crepery and it was divine.  I have never had a crepe so big and so delicious.  The people are incredibly helpful, sweet, lovely, and they all can speak english which is a bonus for us.

Goodbye for now!

Denley

Bowling before Christmas

Hello world!  This is my LAST post of the year!  Wow, what a year it has been.  Thank you to everyone who has been an inspiration, support, and just all around awesome. (You know who you are).  I’m leaving for Montreal in less than 5 hours!  Woot!  Love you all!

On Sunday the family got together and we went bowling, unfortunately not everyone could make it out but the important people did at least :P  This was my going away for Christmas party/ my Mom’s belated birthday party.  Well to  surprise my Dad was the bowling “King” if you will but we managed to de-thrown him in the second game.  Tyler happened to be a low scorer in the early rounds but always managed to come up closer to the end.  Mom was consistent  and had a decent score and my sister, Doris, managed to steal the game with a double strike on the LAST round.  I did fairly well with a 3rd and a 2nd place.

Tyler bowling.

Tyler was my secret santa this year and handed me this AWESOME “The Office Dvd Board Game”  Thanks Tyler!

We THINK this is Tyler rockin’ out, but he might have just been bowling.

I think this is the exact same thing Darth Sidious from Star Wars does to Luke in Episode 5.

Yeah.  Butt crack and all, look at me homies!  Word, brotha…yeah I’ll just stick to being white, thanks.

Mom liked to throw the ball in the air, make a loud banging sound and nearly break the bowling lane, only then could she bowl :)

Oh My GAWD!

Holy crap! I’ve always said and I stand by this; a person’s computer abilities and skill in my eyes, are determined by how many short-cut keys they know. Because of this, I am always looking for new and shorter ways to do things on my computer and the interweb. This one has been driving me NUTS! Ok, so you know when you click incessantly on your address bar trying to highlight the whole URL? YEAH! I KNOW! And it NEVER highlights, or it highlights only a word. This has been driving me nuts for YEARS. Are you ready for this? Are you? F6.

Today, I am a smarter man.

The First Christmas Party

I just attended the first Christmas party of the year for me yesterday.  My good friend Sherb, invited the gang over for some wii and junk food.  Sherb makes the BEST cupcakes I’ve ever eating (i have yet to go to the Cup Cakery), and I was rockin’ out on Guitar hero for a while.  It was a nice quiet party and ended with some Game Cube, yes, we played some Game Cube.  Anyways, here are some pics!

p.s.  Sherb is the one attacking my camera :)
