This week is Flower Power!  This shot was taken at a wedding of all things :P  It is still one of my favourite flower shots so far!  If you are wondering about the technical side of things, it was shot with a 50mm f/1.8!  Feel free to download this picture as your desktop wallpaper for the week!  Now, this image is a square image so I added some pink onto the sides to have a correct resolution for your monitors!  Enjoy!  Oh and don’t forget to comment if you download it :)

So many choices

In today’s digital world you have what seems to be an overabundance of choice when it comes to anything weddings.  Your photographer will be one of the most important decisions you have to make for your wedding (the most important decision is that guy or gal you are marrying of course :P )  Sure sure, I may have a biased opinion here but while I do please here me out :)

While there are many things that are of extreme importance for your day, your photographer is the person who you will be entrusting to capture your day.  Your photos will be one of the only lasting memories of your wedding day.  A wedding is, in most peoples case, the biggest one day event they will ever plan, which is why your photographer is so important. A professional photographer will be able to see moments, and see light in ways that uncle Joe won’t.

It is extremely important that you and your photographer jive.  They will be with you for the whole day, from getting ready to the last dance a photographer must be on the ball the whole day.  So why spend all that money on a photographer you can’t jive with.  You want to be able to trust your photographer, and most importantly be comfortable with them. The best photos I have gotten are the ones where my brides are totally comfortable with me and trust me fully, which is why meeting with a potential photographer is so important.

With the digital era most photographers will not only have a website but a blog.  A blog is a great place to get to know what the photographer is like and to see their latest and greatest.  From here you can see their style and decide if you would like to meet them.  The next step?  Call them!!!  I LOVE getting calls from potential brides.  I love hearing about how they met each other, get to know their personality a little and help them with any questions they might have.  Photographers are some of the friendliest folk you can meet, so don’t be shy!

Each photographer has a different way of doing things, some photographers will not include digital negatives, some include it in all their packages.  This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as long as you are comfortable with what they are offering.  Some photographers won’t hand out the digital files until a year after the wedding date for examply.

Personally, I include the digital negatives in all my packages, but I also have wedding albums built into most of my packages.  When I meet a potential client, one of the first things I like to do is show them my wedding album sample.  I LOVE my wedding albums!!!  I have an amazing company that does just the best work.  Once the wedding album is in their hands they see why getting an album is worth it.  To have such a tangable, real, and beautiful book to tell the story of your day, it’s just gold! :)  drooling…uhhh, sorry, not only do I include the digital files but I don’t want to just give someone digital files and then run for the hills.  I want to be able to give my clients something they can hold, something they can touch, something real!

There are a lot of wedding photographers in Winnipeg to choose from, so what makes me stand out?  Simple.  Simple.  That’s it.  I like to keep things simple, no hidden costs, no gimmicks.  Your wedding planning is stressful enough, I would hate to add to that.  From designing the wedding album, to getting your pictures, I make it as painless and simple as humanly possible!

Oh and one more thing.  Make sure to have FUN on your wedding day!  :)

Warm up to Love Photo Contest

Hey all!  Just a reminder to keep those emails rolling in at contest@egabrielle.com. So on some of my spare time I love visiting contest@egabrielle.com. So on some of my spare time I love visiting movitationalphotos.com just to get a laugh or two when I came across this photo.  Now, as some of you may be aware I have a tendency to get all mushy when it comes to cute couples and when I saw this photo I let out a big ol’ awwwww.  Okay, so there are some things that I think are cuter than others and this is one of them.  Couples who wear the same colours when they go out.  I’m sorry but, it’s just the CUTEST thing ever!  Hopefully this will help get some ideas going for you folks still planning your “Warm up to Love” photos!

Keep rockin’ it folks!

Street Magnet

One of my Bride’s emailed me yesterday and informed me about this really cool website called  Magnet StreetMagnet Street is a cool little website that does everything magnets.  From Save the Date, wedding invitations, to wedding thank you’s!  If you are a do it yourself kinda bride this might be worth while checking out.  I have browsed around the site a little and from what I could gather it is a pretty straight forward, easy to use site.  Magnets are a great idea because cards can sometimes get lost or piled up on, but with a magnet its always on your fridge as a reminder.  So check it out and tell me what you think!

Oh and keep in mind about the Warm up to Love Photo Contest!  Get your entries in for a chance to win some super awesome prizes! :)

Returning from slackville

I know I know.  No blog post in a week?  What’s going on Denley?  I’d like to say i’ve been busy…so I will!  I have been going to meetings, planning for the wedding season and getting back into “work mode”.  I will be making regular postings again, and maybe even more so than ever before!

My new years kinda sorta resolutions are kinda sorta working, I’m eating less mayo (sniffle) but I’m not excersizing as much as I should be.  You can’t win ‘em all I guess.  Anywho, I’ve been thinking about wedding receptions and some really cool things that I’ve seen.  One wedding reception stuck out to me where the brother of the bride made this really funny video about the newly wed couple, but it was no ordinary video…it was the most creative thing I’ve seen in a while so I thought I would share this with you all so you can perhaps get some ideas from it!  I hope you enjoy.

P.s.  What do you think of this kind of video?  Yays or nays?

I am super pumped to announce this Photo Contest!  My good friend and fellow awesome photographer Gabrielle Touchette and I were chatting a while back about how FREAKING cold it is in the ‘Peg when we thought of a great idea!  Winter Photo Contest!

Its cold, a real mean cold.  We aren’t as happy or active as we normally are in the summer.  How oh how will we survive?  Warm thoughts of course.  That or vacationing in Mexico for two months. ☺ So we conjured up something to warm things up a bit.  Because Gab and I love photographing couples and because giving away prizes makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy inside, we are going to be offering the following to 3 lucky couples!

Two couples will win a 1-hour photo session at a location of your choice with either Denley Thiessen or Gabrielle Touchette.  You will receive a rockin’ 8X10 print and all the digital negatives!

The grand prize couple winner will receive a photo session with Gab AND Denley!  That’s right, one lucky couple will have two crazy cool styles and all the delicious digital negatives along with 2 super cool 8X10’s!

Gee guys, that’s a pretty crazy awesome grand prize you say?  No, that’s not all!  We are also bringing on board the lovely and super talented Jessica Kmiec who will be providing make-up for the Grand Prize winners!  Its Hollywood style baby!  Ok, maybe I’m just a little too excited, but dang it, I’m getting all warm and fuzzy inside, and isn’t that the point?

The Fine Print.

Send us a picture of how you are keeping warm with your special someone*
Your special someone can NOT be a teddy bear…sorry!

The top three funniest, weirdest, cutest, warm, or cuddly photos will win one of the super awesome prizes, because you deserve a prize for surviving the winter in Winnipeg don’t you?.

The Fine Fine Print.

Send us your photos but try not making the files really big, we will have a hard time receiving them ☺  e-mail us at contest@egabrielle.com by February 7, 2009 at 11:59pm.  Make sure to include your names and phone number so when you win we can tell you how awesome you are!  Winners will be notified by phone and/or email on February 14, 2009.

Photo sessions will take place between May 1, 2009 and October 1, 2009. Only one photo may be submitted by couple. You may enter the contest for a couple you know if you take and send their photo for them.

And the last thing is you HAVE to tell your other friends about this contest!

2009! And it’s my first official “MEGA” post.

Its 2009 and I didn’t make any “official” new years resolutions.  But I do have a lot of plans, goals and other deliciousness in store.  First off I want to thank everyone for an amazing year.  There are many, MANY people to thank on a personal and professional level.  So here goes!

First and foremost, I’d like to thank my family for their continued source of support and encouragement in my life.  I’d like to thank Sean and Natasha for being amazing people and role models in my life, you guys rock!  Thank you to Gabrielle Touchette, who not only is a close friend but also an amazing photographer who I spend way too much time talking about photography with :P (just kidding, you know I love it!), and who actually happens to be a former bride of mine!  I’d like to thank to Lauralee B. who is like my second mom, you have the best advice!  Thank you to Cory Aronec for teaching me pretty much everything I know!  Thanks to Amanda O. for your awesome blog and someone to chat to every night I teach (when I think about you…).  Many thanks to Patty Boge from Off The Page Photography for your amazing advice.  Thank you to Jake and Jess from Kamp Photography for just being you and super cool at it, I appreciate all the advice you have given! ( I can say Rocktographers properly now, I have been practicing!).  Thanks to all my friends for letting me be myself and STILL being my friends!  You guys are too much fun, and really weird :P  Oh boy I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone!

Okay, so if I didn’t thank you, email me and I’ll make sure to add you in another post:)  So, my new years unofficial resolutions are as follows:

  1. -Be a kinder, more caring person
  2. -Excercise at least twice a week
  3. -Have a salad at least twice a week
  4. -Hug people more
  5. -Use more exclamation points in my post!!!
  6. -Learn French

I realize this could be put into 3 separate posts but how would that make it a mega post then?  See, I’m a thinker!

Montreal!  Montreal was amazing, and if you haven’t noticed by now, I don’t do segways, I just go!  See, that was a segway in a…nevermind.  At any rate, Montreal was very beautiful and the first thing I noticed was they had HILLS!  I know, I know, it doesn’t seem like a big deal but I haven’t seen hills like that in years.  I had to walk up a hill and down a hill all the time.  It makes Winnipeg seem so much easier to walk around, just go straight!  And the weather, boy howdy!  The weather was beautiful.  I remember one day the weather was 0 degrees!  I believe that was boxing day :)  I know I could ramble on for paragraphs but how about I just show you some photos already!

Make sure the check out the last page, thats where my photo is!

Happy New year!

Happy New Year everyone.  Well I’m back.  Montreal was fantastic but its back to work now. I’ve got a lot of catch up to do so this post won’t have any pics from my trip but I’ll be sure to have some up by the weeks end.  I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season and may 2009 bring a un-prorogued parlaiment? hehe, I spent a day in Ottawa too.  Well, its a quicky but I’ll have more for you later!
